Double Edge Theatre
We are thrilled to highlight deserving nonprofit organizations in our Community Spotlight series! We created the series as an avenue for nonprofits to share their mission with a larger audience. We’re proud to showcase local organizations that TMG staff members work with and support.
Living Culture & Striving for Art Justice
For our second spotlight of the series, we interviewed Double Edge Theatre, located in Ashfield, MA. Double Edge Theatre prioritizes imagination in times of creative, emotional, spiritual, and political uncertainty. With a mission of pursuing authenticity, interaction, and identity for those seeking clarity, their performances of visual, and multi-media art are grounded in an ensemble that unfolds imagery, metaphor, mystery, and symbolism with every show they do. That being said, their work embodies so much more than performance art – it’s a cumulation of cultural, economic, organizational, and personal experiences that are created and sustained with open, honest, and meaningful shared experiences. The theatre identifies this notion as ‘Living Culture’ and their dedication to uplifting those facing isolation, despair, and pain is what they identify as ‘Art Justice’.
The Magic of Double Edge Theatre
Our President, Ben Markens, recently sat down with Double Edge Theatre’s Director of Choreography and Dance, Milena Dabova, to discuss how the theatre went from being a quaint farm in 1994 to the magical place it is today. The theatre’s magic is attributed to their compelling art forms, their indoor and outdoor interactive performance space that allows them to travel aerially around their entire farm, storytelling while performing live music, and elevating their audiences to reach their full potential. Ultimately, the integrated experience that Double Edge Theatre provides helps challenge common human misconceptions through their meaningful theatrical work, allowing patrons to be present and relish in the beauty of their natural surroundings.
